South
African National Academy of Intelligence
Act 65 of 2002 provides for the establishment of the South African National Academy of Intelligence (SANAI) which plays a central role in the provision of quality training to the members who make up our Intelligence Services and agencies.
Training at SANAI, which was established in February 2003, is geared towards producing officers who understand the political and security realms of South Africa and the African continent. The inculcation of values and principles that are critical in defence of our young democracy is a key element in training programmes.
The Academy is comprised of an Academic Faculty, an Intelligence Research Institute and an Education, Training and Development Support Component.
Located in Mafikeng, the SANAI campus is named after the late Mzwandile Piliso, a veteran intelligence officer, who played an important role in the establishment of a non-statutory intelligence body that served the liberation movement.
The campus, which has since been renovated, previously belonged to the former Bophuthatswana Intelligence Service (BIIS), one of the then statutory Services amalgamated into the National Intelligence Agency and the South African Secret Service in January 1995.
The principal of the Academy is Mr Mphakama Mbete. No website as yet.
