Adv. P.S Swart (DA) to ask the Minister for Intelligence: 

 

(1)   What total amount in respect of advertising has his Department and/or Ministry (a) budgeted for in the current financial year and (b) spent as at the latest specified date for which information is available;

 

(2)   What total number of advertisements (a) appeared in the print media, (b) was broadcast on (i) radio and (ii) television in respect of (aa) vacant posts, (bb) notices and announcements of tenders and (cc) other purposes;

 

(3)   What was the purpose of the advertisements placed in the category “other purposes” in each case;

 

(4)   Whether any of the advertisements placed in the print media to date included a photograph of him, his Deputy Minister, Director-General or any of the Deputy Directors-General; if so, in each case, (a) what was the purpose of the advertisement and (b)(i) in which publication and (ii) on what date did the advertisement appear;

 

(5)   Whether he or any of his departmental officials received any instructions from the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) to increase his department’s rate of advertising between now and December 2005; if not, with whom were his Ministry’s and/or department’s advertising plans for the current financial year discussed; if so, (a) when was the instruction received, (b) what are the details of the instruction and (c) why did his Ministry and/or department comply with the instruction?

In terms of the above questions, I kindly wish to refer the Honourable Member to the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) as the oversight body for clarity and information on question (1) relating to the budget and on question (2) and (3) relating to matters that are of an operational nature.
