Adv PS Swart (DA) to ask the Minister for Intelligence:
Whether, since 1999, his department has awarded any contracts to any companies whose owners, directors and/or shareholders are office-bearers of any of the structures or wings of the (a) National Executive Committee, (b) National Working Committee, (c) Youth League and/or (d) Women’s League of a certain political organisation (name furnished); if so, in each specified instance, (i) what is the name of the company that was awarded the contract, (ii) on what date was the contract entered into, (iii) what are the (aa) names of and (bb) positions held by the owners, directors and/or shareholders of the company who are office-bearers of any one or more of the four structures listed above, (iv) what is the nature of the work that the company was contracted to perform and (v) what is the value of the contract?
REPLY:
The National Intelligence Agency and the rest of the Intelligence Services follows a Procurement Policy based on the broad procurement principles of the national government e.g. BEE. Another requirement is the ability to deliver the goods and services required and political affiliations are not considered when tenders are awarded. We are therefore not in a position to confirm the membership of any political nature of individuals to who tenders have been awarded.
